In order to do month end I print the inventory balance report on the last day of each month. Today, I tried to pull the same Inventory Balance Report as of the 31st of Jan 2014, as I did on that date, and it changed.
I identified the inventory item that changed and looked at the "inventory transaction card". To my surprise at no point in time was the balance on the card the same as the balance on the inventory balance report, and the transactions that were registered had dates in feb of 2013 and feb of 2014, which in my understanding should not affect the January balance.
I had the same issue with the month of december and my auditors are looking for an answer.
