Owner vs. custom attribute

Good afternoon!

I've found the Owner standard attribute in catalogs. And trying to understand what are benefits of using this attribute instead of creating ordinary attribute with reference to the catalog which I would like to be an owner?

Benefits:
- Predefined behavior: Children are adding to parent GoTo navigation links; Fill check; Link by Owner;
- Predefined database index by: [Tenant] + [Owner] + [Ref]
- Code series: Within subordinate to Owner
