Capitalization guidelines for user interfaces

This article describes the standards that apply to capitalization in user interfaces of 1C:Enterprise platform, 1C:Enterprise applications, and webpages generated by 1C:Enterprise utilities, such as the Licensing Center page where you can obtain license files for 1C:Enterprise. All of the listed recommendations are mandatory unless noted otherwise.

  1. Modern English includes two generally accepted capitalization styles: sentence-style capitalization and heading-style capitalization.

In sentence-style capitalization, only the first word in a sentence and any proper names are capitalized.

In heading-style capitalization, the majority of the words are capitalized, for example: "The Text to Look For".
  2. For data that is displayed on the screen or written to human-readable logs, always use sentence-style capitalization. This includes window titles, menu commands, button labels, text box names, tooltips, table headings, and so on.
  3. For print forms, the default style is sentence-style capitalization. However, if a print form must be compliant with third-party regulations, use the capitalization rules defined in those regulations.
  4. Application names are normally approved by marketing; this includes the capitalization of application names. Ensure that the spelling and capitalization of the application name in the user interface comply with the marketing recommendations.
